New Wiring

Planning a New Wiring Project?

Electrical wiring that is inadequate, overloaded or outdated isn’t just inconvenient–it’s dangerous.

As we use more electricity in our homes and on our farms, it’s even more important to make sure our electrical systems are suitable.

If you are considering rewiring your home or shop or plan to expand, remember any work must meet the minimum requirements of the SD Electrical Commission Standards and the national Electrical Code.

A homeowner can wire his personal place of residence or farm with the proper wiring permit. But, rewiring a home or farm building, adding circuits or upgrading systems is typically a job for a licensed electrical contractor.

Lake Region Electric has a licensed electrician on staff–a service available only to members–who can perform any wiring job other than commercial properties.

It’s always smart and safer to hire a pro when making electrical repairs or improvements. Before the work begins, make sure your electrician is properly licensed. Ask for and check references, and look at the electrician’s previous or on-going work, if possible.

A farmer who is considering building or expanding crop storage facilities has several important decisions that must be made before purchasing any equipment and commencing construction.

These decisions include whether the existing service can adequately handle the new demand, whether any new overhead or underground wiring is needed and where it can be located, and where the correct placement of the grain bin should be to avoid any problems with existing overhead power lines.

To ensure safety, allow enough time to properly design the entire construction. Also, be sure to talk with a representative from Lake Region Electric early in the planning process. We can help you make energy-smart and safe decisions.
