Youth Excursion - North Dakota Trip
This year, Lake Region Electric Association sponsored 2 area students on the Youth Excursion to North Dakota.Taylor Storbakken & Dane Feldhaus were accompanied by chaperone Justin McClurg. The LREA trio joined a group totaling 48 youths and 6 adults on a basin tour in July. The group traveled to Bismarck where they stayed in a dormitory on the Bismarck State College Campus. This was a fun, fast-paced trip where teens learned about the sources of power that our cooperative, and many like us, use. They also learned about different career opportunities that are available to them in the energy field and cooperative communities. McClurg, an accountant at LREA, said it was fun to see the students forming friendships and having a good time while learning.
Members with high-school age students should keep this excursion in mind. Every year, in July, LREA sends 2-3 area teens on this power supply adventure: the Youth Excursion - a supervised, three-day learning retreat for high school students. All area freshmen, sophomores, and juniors whose parents or guardians are members of Lake Region Electric Association can apply to win one of these fun-filled trips. Tour dates will be announced in the March issue of the Cooperative Connections magazine.
